Fata Morgana

Madison Square Park, NY

Madison Square Park Conservancy’s largest and most ambitious outdoor sculpture to date.

This parkwide immersive art experience was designed by Brooklyn Artist Teresita Fernández in collaboration with SITU and fabricated by Adirondack Studios. On-site installation was done by Pink Sparrow Scenic in collaboration with Adirondack Studios. AJA Architecture and Planning acted as the overall project manager. A 500-foot-long sculpture in six sections installed horizontally above park visitors made up of a mirror-polished, golden metal sculpture that hovered above the Park’s winding walkways to define a luminous experiential passage for Park visitors. The metal forms, perforated with intricate patterns reminiscent of foliage, created abstract flickering effects as sunlight filtered through the canopy, casting a golden glow across the expanse of the work, paths, and passersby.
